We all know how great Dhoni is by stat and media. So let me refrain from all those data and stay put with only my point of view of an individual on a different ground.

It is a corporate company that went bankrupt as some of their employees found guilty over fixing. The management was looking for a resurrection. So they went ahead and replaced most seniors with newbies. They retained this Super senior, who has been giving his all for the company. The company holds a dream that is no different from his own.

The dream — is winning the award of a world event which happens once every four years. The team was lead by a young, but aggressive soul.

When the event started, everyone wished they get the award, but there was no hope. The hopes skyrocketed when they reached the finals. They couldn’t win the award as they were up against a mighty opponent. Their project failed, but it set up the stage for them, the beginning of resurrection.

In the next 8 years, there were few other changes done to the team. Another cool young lead got the leadership. And why will he not be cool, the 8 years has transformed the team to a new level. Each team member seems to fit in their role and rise up to the occasion when the team needs them.

The team had 6 developers including the great senior, 3 designers, 1 content writer lead by Mr. Cool. Even though our Lead’s primary role is testing, he also fixes any last-minute bugs when needed. This time hopes were high to get the award, so was the confidence in the team. Throughout the World event, everyone in the team came in handy to beat every opponent. Each played their role well to take the team to the Finals. Unlike the previous Final, this time they were up against an equal counterpart. Both rising up from the bottom to reach glory.

As in previous competitions, the designers and content team came up with an elegant model. In development though, they had some bugs in primary modules. The Lead stepped up to fix the issue, even though we had a developer, who is a specialist in that module was available. Indeed he fixed the issue on time, and they won the prestigious award in the end for having a more stable project.

While many gave credit to the Lead for his last-minute fix, I felt that it is overrated. Another developer who built the project from scratch and ensured its stability got no credits. Also, efforts from other developers, designers, content writers throughout the event have been left out. In a way, what forgotten was that it is the team effort that won the award.

This wasn’t the single occasion, He seems to be doing that time and again. Even when he fixes a minor bug, he ensures everyone sees that as a showstopper and gets people to talk about it. As a team lead, I understand him getting more credits for his team performance. But to me, his performances were nowhere better than his teammates.

It’s not that I hate him, I only rate others’ contribution to the team a little higher than his. I will be happy to give the credit where it is due. I prefer to rate every single performance in the team as equal as possible. Consistent performers more than the rare spotlight ones. Anyways, Metrics used to rate others vary with every person. I am not sure about you, but Dhoni isn’t a GC in my metrics, and I have no personal grudge over him.

/* Even after giving all their worth, there are many who are still rated as PP. Someone getting GC for a rare show is no good. */
